Switching to another domain name registrar is an option if you are looking for better services. Every domain name registrar has its own guidelines for domain name transfer. Here is how you can transfer your domain name to another registrar. Pretend that your domain name is www.soxdemo.com.
Log in to your account page. Using your username and password, log in to your domain registrar’s My Account or Login page. Find the Manage Account option and click it.
View your domain status. Once the window for the Manage Account is open, find the domain tools. Find out your domain status by clicking on your domain name soxdemocom or by clicking the Edit option to view the details of your domain.
Know the expiration of your domain name. Usually, domains are good for a year interval. If you don’t renew the domain, you will likely to lose it permanently. Some purchase a few years in advance. If you do not have pre-paid months that are ahead of you, and the expiration or renewal date is coming soon, transferring as soon as possible is a good idea. Though transferring can happen anytime, no refunds will be given for paid remaining months.
Make sure the “Domain Lock” is off. Look for the domain protection or lock and see if it is turned off. If not, turn it off. A protected domain can’t be transferred.
Make sure you are the Primary Contact. On the Account information part, check if you are the primary contact, which is the owner of the domain, and that the information is accurate and complete.
Check if the email address is your current email. This is needed to ensure that you get the authorization code. You may edit this information in the Primary Contact information. Wait until the change that you made, if any, shows up in the WHOIS database.
Check if your domain is set Private ID PROTECTION. If so, change it to public because the WHOIS database cannot access your personal information if your domain is private or in “private registration”. The transfer will not proceed unless you turn it off.
Start the transfer process. Request from your registrar an authorization code. Initiate the transfer request to SoxDomains. This means that you let SoxDomains take over the ownership of your domain name from the old registrar.
Follow the steps directed by SoxDomains form. This usually involves you filling out the domain name, contact information, billing code and authorization code. Be sure to put your current email address and to provide accurate information.
Complete your order. Within a few minutes or hours, an email will be sent to you confirming your order. Then, another email that has the verification link will be sent. Actual transfer takes place once this has been approved. If transfer failed or was rejected, contact your old registrar.
Test the site after transfer. Check if your website works properly if you already have one.
